Description
I got the idea for this ages ago when I was sitting in History Class, watching a programme about life for German people during World War II. The programme had a section about a young american woman who had moved to live in Germany before the war began. When the war did start though, she remained in Germany. Every week she would recieve an american newspaper which described what exactly was happening - German newspapers had censored most of the goings on.
When she found out about what the Nazis were doing to certain sections of the community, she wanted to speak to those around her, telling them how awful the Nazis were and that they shouldn't support them anymore. The German man that she was living with told her this before she spoke to anyone else about it - 'Durche die Blum sprechen'.
Speak through a flower.
By this, he meant that no matter how hurt or angry you are feeling, you must talk of nothing negative. Speak only of the good things happening in your life. At that time, the people of Germany were being taken away from their homes and 're-educated' when they said something bad about the Nazi party. Many people had to speak through a flower, masking their true feelings.
This is my first ever conceptual piece and I'll probably re-do it at some point. I hope you like it.
